If you are an alumni of the Brushfire we’d love to know what you have been up to and post it here. If you are interested please send us an email with a your name, year published in the Brushfire and a little synopsis of what you have been up to since.
Amy Koeckes (editor 2000-2001): While editor, Amy brought a solid mix of poetry, short story and all mediums of art to the Brushfire. In previous years, mostly photography had been featured and Amy wanted all the many other great mediums that existed on campus represented: painting, sculpture, mix media, pencil, interior design and digital media. With a very small budget at the time, Amy gave up most of her salary to have color pages in the book. She believed it was important to have the art work in color. Amy also believed it was important to not only publish the book but to celebrate the artist and writers in the book so she wanted a release party. Such an event for the Brushfire had not been done or at least not for a while. Now, Amy is lucky enough to be the advisor to the Brushfire and the three other publications at the University of Nevada, Reno. It has been great to see the Brushfire grow into what it is today.
Emily Clark (published artist 2006-2008): Graduated in December 2006, since then Emily has begun to establish herself as a photographer and artist. She published a book of her work in 2007 entitled Solace in Solitude. Her work can be seen at: Lost in Reverie Photography.
Kelly Bridegum (editor 2006-2008, published 2004- 2008): Graduated in May 2008. While she was editor Kelly tried to incorporate as much work as possible into each edition. She strived to create dynamic relationships between image and words. Kelly’s personal goal during her editorship was to have the Brushfire provide more and as many opportunities to artists and writers as possible. She wanted to showcase the best work and work that perhaps may never ordinarily be considered beautiful or “art.” She wanted the Brushfire’s legacy to be evident and developed a digital online archiving system that made past editions available for download and also available to purchase reprinted copies. She saw and sees great things in the Brushfire’s future and hopes that she has laid solid groundwork for the continued growth of the publication. Kelly hopes to continue working in the publishing of art and literature. Some of her personal work may be found at www.StaringThroughLeaves.com
Lark Anderson (assistant editor 2005- 2006, published 2006): Graduated in Spring 2006. Lark has been employed at CNET Networks in San Francisco, CA for over a year now. Lark works for GameSpot, one of the largest video game news and review businesses in the world where he is the Associate Producer in charge of site promotional programming. He also writes game reviews and the occasional new story. His work can be found at: http://www.gamespot.com/users/LarkAnderson.
